Rihanna Future Fashion Icon…I’m Not So Sure…

Rihanna “Black Madonna “Alright…Alight…Alright”, Says Icon 0.3, mumbling to self while, while gearing up to do a presentation in class on, Fashion Icon…You be the judge. (Icon 0.3 shuffles uncomfortably in the bulletproof vest that 50 Cent loaned for this very occasion). “I am going to go out there…to that podium… and just say what I feel… ok here goes…”

Icon o.3 rushes to the podium while the last of fellow classmates find there seat in the lecture hall.

icon 0.3 ducks quickly behind the podium and hears nothing but complete silence. “Woo…ok… that wasn’t bad at all”, says Icon0.3, rising slowly, nodding her head in complete satisfaction, and growing confidence; while displaying a slight uneasiness in an attempt to stand up straight.)

“Yikes!!!!” screeches Icon 0.3 and quickly ducks to prevent the stain of a very ripe tomato that was thrown at the stage. (It was obvious to Icon 0.3 that the culprit was the girl with the annoying Umbrellaellaella ring tone, that kept going off in during people’s presentations.)

Whoa! that was too close people!!!!” “That red stain would have totally clashed with my green blouse!!!!” “Have youuuu no hearrrrrt, Icon 0.3 says purely disgusted.

“Get a Grip Icon 0.3 and continue,” says Icon 0.3 professor sharply.

Ok, (says Icon0.3 mentally shaking off the haters)

I do not want to get into all the technicalities and official definitions of what I believe an Icon is. However, I have to make it clear, that I do not believe being a Fashion Icon and being a “Style-gal” is the same thing. . Now, yes…being fashion Icon does consists of wearing nice clothes, but, it is a little deeper than that…well for me at least. As I have mentioned before, also a character, and “believability” goes along with being an ICON and separates a Fashion “ICON” from a “style-gal.”

Style-gal” meaning that Rihanna wears great clothes; most of the clothes that I see her in are indeed fantastic and she looks nice in it, but I do not believe it. The clothes are sometimes just excessively mature for her face. Whereas, the garments look like they are for a 30ish year old woman. Then the next day she is in an outfit that looks like it is for a 16, 17-year-old girl. That is fine; she is 18 years old. Nevertheless, the different looks are overwhelming at times due to an inconsistent and unbelievable nature of the garments.

When Rihanna came out with her new album, she proclaimed that she wanted to be the “Black Madonna.” (Icon 0.3 has a look of bewilderment on face along with audience) Patent leather outfits, slits in tee shirts, where her signature style, and what she wanted us to believe about her, then, the next day, she is wearing sleek wide pants, along with a fedora, and classic white button blouse, with a “40’s” era looking hair. Rihanna simply reminds me of a popular girl in school, who has clothes galore in her closet with the ability to put on a new outfit forever! Her style looks like she is in a rush to put on all the new trends in her closet before it goes out of style! She strikes me as just too excited to wear everything. It is confusing and annoying.

So, In closing I would just like to reiterate! (Icon0.3 simultaneously slams hand on podium to startle sleeping student in front row) my

Rihanna Style Breakdown:

1. Rihanna, has great taste, but lacks consistency and ability to carry the weight that her outfits present. They are either, too I am a tough girl (but nowhere do I appear to be), too Mature, (I am 30 year old in an 18 year old body) and Trying to hard, to be noticed for fashion (when she should just say, “I am young, having fun and experimenting with clothes to find my own personal style.”

Find a consistent look; run with it; then change it up by the time a new album comes out. Because I am just not buying the elaborate gowns, chains and Jackie O. glasses, what I will buy is that she is a young, cute girl, who is having fun, has great taste in designers, but experimenting with style; not a future fashion icon. (Whose closet I would love to raid by the way.)Rihanna RunwayRihanna White

My Prognosis is this: Rihanna in not a Future Fashion ICON in the making.

“Sorry if I offend any Rihanna stalkers, I know you’re out there.” Icon0.3 says raising one eyebrow (The nerdy-looking umbrellaellaella ring tone girl in the audience, shrinks in chair while nibbling on a tomato)

Icon 0.3 leaves the podium as one person claps really….really slow in the audience.

You don’t know fashion!!!!-Yells Icon03.
